Crypto withdrawals step by step: avoiding the errors that cannot be undone
The most expensive crypto mistakes happen at the withdrawal form. A step-by-step guide to withdrawing from Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget: destination, network, memo, fee check and a small first transfer.
Multiple exchanges | Russia | RUB | fees, access and account safety
Few mistakes in personal finance are as final as a wrong crypto withdrawal. There is no bank to call, no chargeback and no recall button. Funds sent on an unsupported network or to an incorrectly copied address are usually gone. Nearly all such losses can be avoided by a routine that takes a few minutes. The steps below follow the order in which the decisions arise, from preparing the destination to testing the route, and apply to Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget alike, whichever interface you happen to use.
Step one: know the destination
Before touching the withdrawal form, open the receiving wallet or platform and read its deposit screen. Write down the networks it accepts for your asset and whether a memo is required. Many errors come from starting on the sending side and guessing the rest. If the destination is a wallet you control, label its address in the whitelist so that future withdrawals are quicker and safer.
Step two: select the matching network
On the withdrawal form, choose the network that matches the destination and read its complete name. Similar names exist for different networks, and the coin symbol alone does not distinguish them. If the options do not overlap, stop. Ask the destination's support which route they recommend instead of trying a different network and hoping it works.
Step three: verify the address and the fee
Paste the address and compare the first and last characters with the original. Read the fee and the amount that will arrive, as shown on the form, since network conditions change the fee over time. Do not accept advice from anyone who offers to guide you by phone or chat; legitimate staff will not ask you to send funds anywhere for safety.
Step four: send a small test
For any new route, send a small amount first and wait for confirmation of arrival. Then send the remainder, and record the date, network, amount and transaction ID. If something goes wrong, those details are what official support will need. Beware of people who offer to recover lost funds for a fee after you have posted about a problem. Keep every record.
