Building your own fee baseline across four exchanges in one evening

A one-evening exercise for readers who use Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget: record your logged-in fee rates, a test trade and withdrawal costs in a single sheet you can update every quarter.

If you use more than one exchange, you probably have a vague idea of which is cheaper, based on something you read or a feeling after a trade. A fee baseline replaces that impression with your own numbers. It is a single sheet that records, for each exchange you use, the rates attached to your account, a check against a real trade and the withdrawal costs for the routes you take. One evening of work gives you a reference you can refresh quarterly.

Set up the sheet

Make a table with one column per exchange and rows for spot maker rate, spot taker rate, derivatives rates if you trade them, any active discount, the withdrawal fee for your two most common coin and network combinations, and the date you recorded each value. Leave a row for notes. Keeping everything in one table makes differences obvious at a glance.

Fill in rates from each fee page

Sign in to each exchange and open its fee page. Logged in, it shows your tier and the rates that apply. Copy them into the sheet with today's date. Note whether a discount, such as paying fees with a platform token, is switched on, because that changes the effective rate. Do not fill the sheet from comparison websites; their figures may be for a different tier or out of date.

Verify with one small trade each

On each exchange, place one small spot trade of the type you usually use and open the order details afterwards. Check the fee charged against your sheet. A resting limit order should match the maker rate and a market order the taker rate. If something does not match, note the order ID. This step catches discounts that are not applied or pairs that sit in a different fee group.

Add withdrawal costs and review quarterly

Open the withdrawal screen on each exchange for the coin and network you use most and record the fee and minimum shown. These change more often than trading rates. Once the sheet is complete, set a reminder to update it every three months. Comparing the new values with the old ones shows changes early and helps you decide where to keep which part of your activity.

Scenario checkpoint

  • Create one table with rates, discounts and withdrawal fees for each exchange you use.
  • Copy rates from each logged-in fee page with the date, not from comparison sites.
  • Check one small real trade per exchange against the recorded rate.
  • Record withdrawal fees for your usual routes and update the sheet every quarter.
